Yes, you read that correctly, I ate 10 different desserts last week. And by "last week" I actually mean from last Wednesday (3/24) through last Saturday (3/27). I am like the Takeru Kobayashi of desserts.
So what did I have? And most importantly, were they worthy enough to gain a pound or two over? Let's go in chronological order:
3/24 - The "Southern Belle" and "Elvis" cupcake from Sugar Mama's Bakeshop in Austin, Tx. The "Southern Belle", located on the lower left, is Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting, and Elvis, located stage center, is a banana cupcake with peanut butter butter cream frosting. I've had a few gourmet cupcakes this year - from Sprinkles in Dallas, Crave from Houston, and others that were priced over $3/pop to make them 'gourmet' and not just 'from your box of cupcake mix'. I have to say, I would not be willing to gain an ounce of weight on these. They're moist enough, cream cheesy enough, but if I were itching to give up 300-600 of my hard earned splurge calories on a sweet, it would not be on this. And in case you're wondering, after the Southern Belle and Elvis, I wasn't interested enough in the other 3 shown in the picture.
3/25 - Splurge-a-rama at the Driskill Grill in Austin, Tx. We ordered 6 desserts, but the Guanaja Hazelnut Crunch Bar with malted milkshake was the fav. The crunch bar was amazing: melt in your mouth chocolate (think: complete opposite of the solid chocolate Easter bunnies molds from your local corner store), a perfectly crunchy crunch layer, and a shot of malted milkshake with hazelnuts to finish off the dessert. Yes, splurge your coveted calories on this one! According to our waiter/historian, this is a signature item that people from all over come in for...a quick google search seems to confirm this. Due to the already lengthy nature of this week's blog, I've put the other 5 dessert reviews on a separate page dedicated solely to the Driskill's Grill desserts on March 25, 2010.

Welcome to the blog about desserts and desserts only!
Those that know me know that I am all about desserts. So I thought, if there are Sommeliers, there should be Dessertists. Or maybe it's dessertiers? Let me know what you think...I may have to update the blog name.
So let me (attempt to) articulate what I envision this blog to be dedicated towards:
So let me (attempt to) articulate what I envision this blog to be dedicated towards:
- pictures and reviews on every dessert I encounter (that's a lot)
- my results on trying new dessert recipes
- and probably a lot more involving dessert goodness
